On Monday, Jan. 13, 2025, our FASPS Grade 8 students and their advisors visited FOOD LIFELINE in Seattle to complete important community service. We arrived, watched a humorous cartoon safety video, broke into two groups, washed our hands, gloved-up, and got to work!
One group buddied up and repackaged massive sacks of potatoes into forty-pound boxes, and the other group carefully scooped and sorted pinto beans into hundreds of two-pound bags. All together, we organized and prepped over 16,000 pounds of nutritious staples to be given to individuals experiencing food insecurity across Western Washington!
Taking the task very seriously, our students collaborated well and focused intently all morning. Actively showing we care for those who are facing personal challenges and going through difficult times is part of being connected to our community at large. Volunteering at Food Lifeline is impactful and it makes a difference to families in our region. Hunger is a daily problem for thousands of Washingtonians, and the students all agreed that energetically helping others creates a deep sense of contentment. Knowing that we made a positive difference in people’s lives is a great feeling.
