Welcome to the FASPS Middle School Program

At the French American School of Puget Sound (FASPS), our Middle School program provides a dynamic bilingual curriculum designed to equip students with essential academic and critical thinking skills for success in high school and beyond. We emphasize personal responsibility, independence, and cultural diversity, fostering a community that encourages students to become engaged and thoughtful citizens in an interconnected world. The program seamlessly extends from our elementary curriculum, maintaining a balanced use of English and French to enhance language fluency and conceptual understanding.

Our innovative approach includes a diverse range of courses, such as Chinese, Drama, History-Geography, STEM, and more, ensuring students develop mastery across disciplines. Students engage in interdisciplinary learning days, known as iDays, which allow them to explore themes through hands-on activities, simulations, and projects.

Our unique learning labs, where teachers share their passions, further enrich the educational experience. Excursions and overnight trips, including to the Kennedy Space Center and international destinations, provide experiential learning opportunities that foster community and connection.

FASPS Middle School prioritizes a supportive environment that encourages social interaction and personal growth. Our advisory program focuses on socio-emotional learning, while retreats and service activities strengthen our inclusive culture. With a commitment to academic excellence, our Middle School has achieved full accreditation by both the French Ministry of Education and the Northwest Association of Independent Schools.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS:

LANGUAGE ARTS & HUMANITIES: In language arts (in French) and humanities (in English), students hone critical thinking through the study of current cultural topics and events, and they refine their written and oral communication skills.

HISTORY & GEOGRAPHY: Through the study of history and geography, students are given the opportunity to explore the context and dynamics of human societies, gaining a deeper understanding of diverse social phenomena.

MATHEMATICS: Math is offered in French and in English with accelerated and differentiated learning. By the end of 8th grade, students have completed the equivalent of high school geometry and are ready for advanced high school algebra.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY: Middle school science and technology classes introduce students to physics, biology, chemistry, and technology ( design and coding). These lessons and STEM projects ignite curiosity and provide the tools to explore and make meaning of the world through hands-on learning and discovery.

WORLD LANGUAGES: Students choose an additional language, Mandarin or Spanish, which helps them deepen their understanding of global diversity.

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS: Visual arts, music, and drama allow students to be creative, develop technical skills, and cultivate an appreciation for diverse cultures.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: PE introduces students to different sports activities, helping them increase their confidence, maintain physical fitness, and develop collaborative and leadership skills.

INTERDISCIPLINARY CLASSES: PE introduces students to different sports activities, helping them increase their confidence, maintain physical fitness, and develop collaborative and leadership skills.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM: Students partake in overnight educational trips to the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, France, China, and Costa Rica. Homestay exchanges (up to 6 weeks) with partner schools in France, Spain, and Taiwan provide students with an immersive learning experience.

ADVISORIES: Small group advisories foster meaningful peer and educator connections. Students receive academic support, set goals, and strengthen school connectedness to increase socio-emotional wellbeing.
