Yearbook!

Hey Middle Schoolers! Do you like taking photos, working with design, choosing fonts, organizing group projects, writing blurbs, and decorating and laying out posters? If so, you should join the YEARBOOK team! In this Learning Lab, we will collaborate to produce a school-wide, full-color glossy yearbook! You will make FASPS history! We will work together to plan, design, and unify the entire layout of this year’s memory book. If you join us, you will become a real photographer, graphic designer, and visual storyteller. Students will take photos throughout the school and help organize and choose the best ones to use in our publication.  

We’ll be focusing on “even coverage” ensuring that everyone is pictured, so we’ll be tagging photos, too, ensuring that the entire book looks cohesive and cool! The Yearbook Staff will be deciding on what we want to include! You will learn the best methods of photojournalism and we will utilize technology tools collectively to produce a professional-grade keepsake for our whole community. A picture is worth a thousand words! Come join the YEARBOOK fun! 

Bonjour ! Aimez-vous prendre des photos, collaborer avec les autres, travailler avec la conception, choisir des polices de caractères, écrire des textes de présentation, décorer et disposer des affiches et organiser les choses ? Si c’est le cas, vous devriez rejoindre l’équipe de l’ANNUAIRE – le YEARBOOK! Dans ce laboratoire d’apprentissage, nous collaborerons à la production d’un annuaire en couleur sur papier glacé à l’échelle de l’école ! Vous entrerez dans l’histoire de FASPS ! Nous travaillerons ensemble pour planifier, concevoir et organiser l’ensemble de la mise en page du livre de souvenirs de cette année. Si vous nous rejoignez, vous deviendrez photographe, graphiste et conteur visuel. Les élèves prendront beaucoup de photos dans toute l’école et aideront à organiser et à sélectionner les meilleures.  

Nous nous concentrerons sur une « représentation numérique de l’ensemble des élèves équitable » – en veillant à ce que tout le monde soit photographié (nous allons donc aussi taguer les photos !) – ainsi qu’en veillant à ce que l’ensemble du livre ait l’air cohérent et cool !  L’équipe décidera de ce que nous voulons inclure, alors maintenant ce sera à vous de nous aider à y parvenir. Nous apprendrons les meilleures méthodes de photojournalisme et nous utiliserons des outils numériques pour produire un souvenir de qualité professionnelle pour toute notre communauté. How to Stay Healthy?

Nutrition, Exercise, Sleep, Relaxation, Stress Reduction, and Activating the Flow State 

Ready to feel good?  Take a Learning Lab to improve your current and lifelong wellbeing!  Develop practical skills, research, and teach your peers about the “four pillars” of health: nutrition, exercise, sleep, and relaxation.  Fortunately, having fun is part of being well, so you will be able to work on projects that connect you with “being in the zone” or the flow state such as reading, journaling, and creating crafts and art.  Cook, do yoga, walk in nature, and learn how to sustain your best physical and emotional health throughout your life! 

La santé : Nutrition, activité physique, sommeil, repos, réduction du stress et activation de l'état de flow. 

Êtes-vous prêt à vous sentir bien ?  Participez à un laboratoire d'apprentissage pour améliorer votre état de santé actuel et à long terme !  Développez des compétences pratiques, faites des recherches et enseignez à vos pairs les "quatre piliers" de la santé : nutrition, activité physique, sommeil et repos.  Heureusement, s'amuser fait partie du bien-être, et vous pourrez donc travailler sur des projets qui vous permettent d'être "dans la zone" ou l'état de flow, comme la lecture, la création d'un journal, et l'art.  Cuisinez, faites du yoga, marchez dans la nature et apprenez à maintenir votre meilleure santé physique et émotionnelle tout au long de votre vie !
Never Again: Stories of the Holocaust

In this Learning Lab, students will explore one of the darkest chapters in human history: the Holocaust. Through the study of personal stories, historical events, and the lessons learned, Never Again: Stories of the Holocaust will encourage students to think critically about hate, prejudice, and genocide. While we will confront the painful realities of this period—including the stories of suffering, loss, and injustice—we will also focus on themes of resistance, resilience, and the power of hope.  

Students will learn about the experiences of survivors, the bravery of those who fought back, and the moral decisions made by individuals in the face of oppression. We will ask important questions: How can we recognize the early signs of hatred and prejudice in our world today? What actions can we take to prevent such atrocities from happening again? And how can we honor the memory of those who suffered by building a future based on empathy, justice, and human rights?   This Learning Lab will include a field trip to the Holocaust Center for Humanity in Seattle. We look forward to having you join us! 

Dans ce Learning Lab, les élèves exploreront l'un des chapitres les plus sombres de l'histoire humaine : l'Holocauste. À travers l'étude d'histoires personnelles, d'événements historiques et des leçons tirées de ce passé, Never Again : Stories of the Holocaust encouragera les élèves à réfléchir de manière critique sur la haine, les préjugés et le génocide. Bien que nous devions confronter les réalités douloureuses de cette période—y compris les histoires de souffrance, de perte et d'injustice—nous mettrons également l'accent sur des thèmes de résistance, de résilience et de la puissance de l'espoir.

Veterans History Project

Do you want to learn how the wars of the 20th century affected our societies and generations of individuals? Curious about the causes, events, and consequences? Interested in interviewing war veterans and finding out about their experiences, where they came from, what they went through, and how they came home?  Think about it: have you ever wondered what it might be like to be a part of something so big, so outside of our experience, that you’re willing to give up all the comforts and safety of home?  If you are intrigued by any of those questions, then this Learning Lab is for you!  

ome and join our journey to locate veterans to learn from and explore the wars they fought in so that we can create an interactive podcast to share what we’ve learned and their stories. We will be exploring wars that involved the US and France – wars that are linked to each country, either independently or together.  We will need researchers, writers, directors, videographers, interviewers, and editors to fulfill our goals.  Help us make connections and give back to those who have already given us more than we could even imagine.

ejoignez-nous dans une aventure unique : retrouver des vétérans, apprendre de leurs récits et explorer les guerres auxquelles ils ont pris part. Ensemble, nous créerons un podcast interactif pour partager nos découvertes et faire entendre leurs histoires. Nous nous intéresserons aux conflits où les Etats Unis et la France furent impliqués. Pour mener à bien ce projet, nous aurons besoin d’d'enquêteurs de hercheurs, d’écrivains, de réalisateurs, de vidéastes, d’intervieweurs et de monteurs en herbe !

With two campuses, our main campus on Mercer Island and our new preschool campus in the vibrant Capitol Hill area of Seattle, the French American School of Puget Sound (FASPS) is a private, bilingual school for children age 18 months (tiny young pre-kindergarten) through grade 8.
