Why I Created a Medieval Board Game for My History Class:
This year, I introduced Intrigues Féodales, a medieval-themed board game, to bring our unit on feudalism to life. Designed specifically for my students, the game immerses them in the social structures and power dynamics of the feudal era by allowing them to step into the roles of its key players.
Making History Come Alive
The game places students in the shoes of kings, dukes, and counts, challenging them to manage resources, forge alliances, and strategize their way to success. By actively engaging with the challenges of medieval society, students practice critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. This hands-on approach shows them how decisions can shape the course of history, making the learning experience meaningful and memorable.
The Objective: Learn by Playing
In the game, each player works to expand their territory and influence while navigating the complex web of alliances and rivalries of feudal life. By stepping into these roles, students deepen their understanding of feudalism, turning a traditional history lesson into an exciting, interactive journey through the Middle Ages.
By bringing gamification into the classroom, Intrigues Féodales not only makes history engaging but also shows students how the lessons of the past continue to resonate in the present.
