Math Week Madness at FASPS!

During the week of May 10th, our school was excited about Math Week Madness, a celebration of numbers, logic, and problem-solving! From competitions to creative activities, students from G4 to G8 put their mathematical skills to the test in various engaging challenges.

On Tuesday, March 11, G5 and G6 students teamed up for the Mathématiques Sans Frontières Junior contest. In mixed teams of five, they worked together to solve nine math problems in just 50 minutes! The challenge required teamwork, strategy, and quick thinking—everyone had a blast pushing their problem-solving abilities to the limit. You can check out photos from the event on Vidigami!

Of course, no Math Week is complete without the Course au Nombre, a mental math competition from G4 to G8. Students have been training tirelessly since October to master their calculations. This 10-minute challenge consists of 30 questions, all done mentally—no calculators, no written notes!

To celebrate Pi Day (3.14) on Friday, G4 and G5 joined in on a series of fun math-inspired activities! From creating a Pi skyline to baking delicious Pi-shaped cookies, students explored this famous number in creative ways. They also used compasses and scissors to construct Pi’s decimals, participated in exciting math challenges, and even composed Pi-ku (a mathematical twist on haiku poetry!). The highlight of the day? Students formed a giant π symbol on the turf, captured from above by a drone.

But the math fun isn’t over yet! The week of March 17th, G3 students took on the famous Kangourou math contest, a challenge that tests their problem-solving skills in a fun and rewarding way.
